A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cover placed over a tooth to restore its normal shape, size, strength, and improve how it looks. Permanent crowns can be made from stainless steel, metal, such as gold, porcelain-fused-to-metal, resin or all ceramic / porcelain.
Crowns are usually needed when patients have cavities too large for a filling, cracked or worn down teeth, after root canal treatment or for cosmetic reasons to cover a discolored or badly shaped tooth.
It usually takes two dental visits to complete the treatment.
